Saratoga, CA – Have you ever seen a dangerously close tailgating car in your rearview mirror and wish there was something you could do about it? Somehow send that other car a message that it is too close, without taking your attention from the road? A new safety feature for cars everywhere will do just that: Automobile Distance Warning and Alarm System (ADWAS).

If the car behind you comes within 3 seconds of your bumper, or 4 seconds in foul weather conditions, ADWAS will flash your follower a warning. You, the safe driver, will see a flashing light on your rear view mirror, and hear an optional beeping sound, warning you that the driver behind is too close and at risk of rear-ending your car. ADWAS can also be placed in the front of your car, to indicate when you are driving dangerously close to the car ahead.

Besides being helpful in everyday driving situations, this anti-tailgating light could prove useful for traffic police to spot reckless drivers, difficult to single out otherwise.

For fleet operators, a reporting system can be placed in the vehicle to report back to the base station for either real-time monitoring, or for saving in a file for later retrieval, with time stamp and map position, notifying the vehicle safety manager of where, when and how often professional drivers ignore safe following distances.

Automobile Safety Equipment, the patent holder for ADWAS, is seeking a long-term licensing arrangement to manufacture, market, and/or distribute this new technology based on the acquisition of the intellectual property rights.
